Job Title: Senior Data Scientist
Location: Luton/Hybrid
TEAM OVERVIEW
The data science division is on the lookout for a Senior Data Scientist/Operational Researcher to enhance our capabilities. The ideal candidate will possess a robust foundation in data science, particularly within the realms of Network & Scheduling. Key responsibilities include crafting and executing optimization models, scrutinizing data to uncover innovative prospects, and working alongside cross-functional teams to facilitate the deployment of our developed models.
This position reports to a Lead Data Scientist and is integral to the Data Science team, which is tasked with pioneering new predictive, simulation, optimization, and AI functionalities that will elevate easyJet to the forefront of data-driven aviation.
ROLE OBJECTIVE
The Senior Data Scientist will be accountable for:
- Steering the execution of optimization algorithms and mathematical frameworks that address intricate business challenges with minimal oversight from senior colleagues.
- Collaborating with the analytics and data science team to enhance the optimization proficiencies of the group.
- Translating complex optimization ideas to non-technical audiences.
- Engaging in the comprehensive Data Science Project Lifecycle, leveraging expertise from the Data Science Toolbox.
CAREER TRACKS
Management Track:
- Overseeing junior team members with guidance from senior leadership.
Specialist Track:
- Beginning to cultivate a broad specialization (e.g., Optimization, Network & Scheduling) and establishing oneself as a trusted authority within the Data Science team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contributing to the full Data Science Project Lifecycle from conception to implementation.
- Developing, validating, and managing intermediate predictive, simulation, and optimization models and algorithms.
- Collaborating with senior team members to establish and utilize key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess performance against business objectives.
- Monitoring data quality to enhance confidence in the analytical data utilized.
- Adhering to Agile methodologies and a hypothesis-driven approach.
- Participating in the recruitment process to build a strong team of Data Scientists.
Management Track:
- Setting clear objectives for each team member under your supervision.
- Ensuring that each team member has a personal development plan and actively works towards it.
- Conducting regular performance reviews for direct reports.
Specialist Track:
- Acquiring in-depth knowledge in a broad area of specialization (e.g., Optimization, Network & Scheduling) and serving as a trusted expert within the Data Science team.
- Mentoring and coaching colleagues within the Data Science team to foster technical excellence.
- Delivering training sessions for the Data Science team in your area of expertise.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
- Proficient programming skills in Python, SQL, and an additional compute-optimized language.
- Intermediate understanding of optimization methodologies such as Linear Programming, Integer Programming, Mixed-Integer Programming, and constraint programming.
- Familiarity with both exact and (meta)heuristic optimization techniques.
- Knowledge of the Data Science Toolbox, including Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Programming, Data Ingestion, Data Munging, Data Visualization, Machine Learning, Optimization, Simulation, Reinforcement Learning, and Big Data methodologies.
- Strong analytical background, with a degree or MSc in a scientific or engineering discipline (Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Physical Sciences) or equivalent professional experience.
