About the Fellowship

The Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our Orthopaedic Team as a Hand and Wrist Fellow. This 12-month fellowship provides an exceptional opportunity to develop expertise in hand and wrist surgery, working alongside a team of experienced consultants.

Main Responsibilities
  • Assess and manage patients with hand and wrist pathology in clinic and theatre settings
  • Care for patients on the ward, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team
  • Undertake surgical procedures on patients with hand and wrist pathology, with increasing independence throughout the fellowship
  • Contribute to the middle grade on-call rota, working closely with the hand consultants to ensure seamless patient care
About the Role

This fellowship is designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience, with opportunities to develop clinical skills, knowledge, and research expertise. The successful candidate will be supported by the five consultants within the unit, with a focus on progressing towards independent practice.

  • Essential Qualifications
    • Full GMC registration with license to practice
    • FRCS T&O or equivalent
    • Higher professional training in Trauma & Orthopaedics
  • Desirable Qualifications
    • BSc or alternative
  • Essential Experience
    • Hand and wrist experience at Specialist Registrar level or equivalent
  • Desirable Experience
    • Breadth of experience in and outside speciality
  • Essential Clinical Skills
    • Demonstrable experience of hand and wrist surgery
    • Understanding of clinical risk management
  • Desirable Clinical Skills
    • IT skills
  • Essential Knowledge
    • Able to demonstrate appropriate level of clinical knowledge
    • Knowledge and use of evidence-based practice
    • IT skills
    • Breadth of experience in and outside speciality
  • Desirable Knowledge
    • Understanding the principles of research and demonstrating research experience

    • Good oral and written communication skills
