Senior Clinical Fellow in Advanced Robotic Surgery

Position Overview
We invite applications for a Senior Clinical Fellow position specializing in Advanced Robotic Surgery within the Oesophagogastric Unit at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. This role is designed for individuals who have completed their CCT and are seeking to enhance their expertise in robotic surgical techniques.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be integral to the daily management of patients within the Oesophagogastric Unit, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team that includes:
- 7 full-time Consultants
- 3 Senior Specialist Registrars
- 1 Core Trainee
- 4 Foundation Year Trainees
- 3 Clinical Nurse Specialists
- 1 Specialist Dietician
Responsibilities will encompass both elective and emergency surgical procedures, with shared duties alongside registrars. The role includes participation in the general surgical on-call consultant rota, with a commitment of 1 in 16, including 2-3 non-resident night shifts.
This position offers substantial operative exposure, particularly in robotic surgery, with opportunities to:
- Conduct a bi-weekly day-case surgical list
- Manage a bi-weekly benign upper GI clinic
- Engage in weekly cancer multidisciplinary team meetings
- Participate in weekly cancer clinics
- Lead ward rounds
Experience and Development
This fellowship is supported by the Royal College of Surgeons of England, aiming to cultivate independence in benign robotic upper GI surgery by the conclusion of the fellowship. The unit is recognized for its high volume of surgical procedures, performing approximately:
- 60 resections
- Over 100 fundoplications
- 200 bariatric surgeries
- Up to 1000 cholecystectomies annually
