Role Overview

As a prominent entity in environmental disclosure, CDP is acknowledged for the credibility and leadership behind the ratings we assign to organizations and governments based on their initiatives to tackle the nature crisis. The Scoring team within our Disclosure Management division is tasked with the annual evaluation of our scoring frameworks and criteria, providing training to ensure uniformity in scoring, and preparing the final release of the highly anticipated score announcements, including the esteemed 'A-list'.

The Lead Scoring Manager will oversee our Scoring Automation team, directing strategy and capabilities. This position is vital in exploring and developing innovative scoring methodologies, tools, and technologies that will enhance the reputation of CDP's scores while influencing how organizations and governments are benchmarked and the actions they subsequently undertake. This role presents significant opportunities to adopt a product-oriented approach to data science, innovate scoring methodologies, and make a meaningful impact on the nature crisis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct and manage the Scoring Automation team, supervising all operations, defining the strategic roadmap for scoring automation, enhancing team skills, and serving as the subject matter expert for coding solutions for intricate scoring methodologies.
  • Act as a principal internal stakeholder during the development of CDP's questionnaires and related scoring frameworks, collaborating with business stakeholders to drive enhancements in questionnaires and methodologies that facilitate the most efficient and ambitious scoring of response data.
  • Conduct analyses of internal scoring tools and process efficiencies to identify functional priorities for future development, aligning these with the evolution of our technology platform.
  • Innovate new data science-driven scoring techniques, tools, and methodologies to provide deeper insights into scoring methodology performance and recommend appropriate adjustments to scoring directions.
  • Lead investigations into the application of NLP techniques to evaluate open-text questionnaire responses, aiming to reduce the overall time and cost associated with scoring responses.
  • Collaborate with the Product team to incorporate new scoring techniques, tools, and methodologies into upcoming technology platform roadmaps.
  • Develop and continuously enhance dashboards to support scoring operational activities, while also investigating which KPIs should guide future development and are most predictive of success.
  • Establish and maintain statistical processes for quality assurance for both manual and automated scoring processes, providing insights into QA confidence and the effort required to meet objectives.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Academic or professional background in data science or analysis; previous exposure to environmental issues is advantageous.
  • Strong technical data skills with Python, NumPy/Pandas, SQL, and familiarity with data science libraries (Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Keras, Matplotlib, Seaborn); technical skills in JavaScript/TypeScript (React/Node) are beneficial.
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming principles.
  • Practical knowledge and experience with NLP, Generative AI, and LLMs.
  • Exceptional data analysis skills in Excel, including experience with large datasets, pivot tables, and data visualization.
  • Experience in line management, with the ability to motivate, support, and empower team members.
  • Proven track record of delivering complex projects within strict deadlines and budget constraints.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills, with the ability to manage expectations and devise solutions.
