About the Role

We are seeking a Configuration Manager to join our Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) business line in Crawley.

As a Configuration Manager, you will establish your presence within designated programs, providing strategic guidance and applying Configuration Management principles throughout the product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop CM planning for new and ongoing projects, crafting a tailored CM implementation strategy.
  • Assist in identifying contract and subcontract requirements to ensure effective CM performance among partners and suppliers.
  • Create, maintain, and implement the CM Plan in line with policies and contractual obligations.
  • Specify, uphold, and ensure compliance with CM requirements for contractors and suppliers.
  • Conduct audits and assessments of contractors and suppliers to verify that CM processes, systems, and deliverables meet established standards.
  • Ensure accurate definition of the product and its associated data.
  • Engage in design and stage reviews (PDR, CDR, etc.).
  • Establish and maintain configuration baselines (FBL, ABL, PBL).
  • Participate in selecting configuration items and developing product breakdown structures and Bills of Materials.
  • Establish and manage the configuration change management system, including internal and external Change Control Boards (CCBs).
  • Coordinate and oversee the configuration change process for design alterations, including item changes, document modifications, deviations, waivers, concessions, and trial adjustments.
  • Ensure traceability of design changes throughout the design and implementation phases.
  • Maintain and release the Configuration Status Report (CSR) to track configuration management phases and milestone achievements.
  • Capture, verify, and control 'as built', 'as installed', 'as tested', and 'as maintained' configuration data.
  • Plan and execute configuration verifications and audits (PCA & FCA).
  • Foster a proactive, positive attitude within the team and encourage innovative thinking.
  • Delegate tasks within the CM team effectively.
  • Provide insights on the efficiency and effectiveness of the development environment.
  • Report on CM Key Performance Indicators.
  • Support the generation of project estimates.
  • Ensure clear communication of key issues being addressed by Engineering.

About You

  • You possess a strong command of standard configuration management processes and tools, particularly those related to Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).
  • A degree in an engineering discipline is preferred.
  • You have a solid understanding of operational processes and methods (Bids & Projects, Engineering, Production, and Services).
  • You are knowledgeable about system integration principles (System, Hardware, and Software).
  • You can adapt and evaluate the configuration management system along with contractual and commercial requirements within your scope.
  • You are familiar with Lean Management approaches and can apply Agile principles to team management and development.
  • You can manage complexity and thrive in dynamic environments.
  • You have expertise in Hardware and Software CM practices and tools.
  • You can effectively communicate your needs and initiatives to gain support.
  • This role requires full Security Clearance, either current or the ability to obtain it.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in configuration management within defence or engineering organizations or in delivering MOD projects.
  • Familiarity with standards such as DEF Stan.
  • Experience with Windchill PLM software.
