Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Lead Theatre Practitioner to become a vital part of our dynamic Operating Theatre Department. This is a permanent position that offers various flexible working arrangements in accordance with Trust Policy, ensuring that our service delivery remains uncompromised.

Specialties Covered: Our department handles a wide range of specialties, including but not limited to: Adult and Pediatric care, General Surgery, Colorectal procedures, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Vascular surgery, Gynaecology, and Obstetrics. We operate a 24-hour emergency service, seven days a week, which necessitates adaptable shift patterns. The facility boasts ten operating theatres, including a state-of-the-art integrated vascular hybrid suite, with plans to introduce a new colorectal integrated theatre.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the management and operational oversight of the department.
  • Act as a deputy to the team leader when necessary.
  • Provide professional guidance and support within critical care settings.
  • Encourage and facilitate educational and professional development within the department.
  • Adhere to the NMC/HCP Professional Code of Conduct.
  • Ensure the confidentiality and accuracy of patient and staff information in compliance with the Data Protection Act.
  • Support budget management initiatives.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) or Operating Department Practitioner (AODP) qualification.
  • Recognized teaching certification.
  • Post-basic qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Significant experience at Band 5 level.
  • Proven experience in managing a theatre team on a shift basis.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Willingness to pursue further relevant studies as required.
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance, HR, and Health & Safety protocols.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Enthusiastic, motivated, and dependable.
