Position Overview
Are you a skilled nursing professional with expertise in congenital heart conditions, dedicated to providing support and education to children, adolescents, and their families?
Do you have a commitment to delivering exceptional, personalized care while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams to achieve optimal outcomes?
We are looking for a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Expert in Paediatric Cardiology, specializing in the care of children and young individuals aged 0-16 years.
At Guy's and St Thomas', we take pride in offering high-quality, individualized care.
Our core values guide us: prioritizing patient needs, taking pride in our work, respecting others, striving for excellence, and acting with integrity. We are committed to treating every individual who engages with our services with compassion and kindness. If you embody these values and wish to be part of our team, we encourage you to consider this opportunity.
This position is intended to cover a maternity leave for a fixed term. The successful candidate will operate across various sites and within our network to provide guidance, education, and support to children, young people, their families, and caregivers, assisting them in navigating their journey from diagnosis through cardiac interventions and surgeries, to transitioning to adult services, ensuring they receive relevant and current information about their health conditions.
Key Responsibilities
The role of a Paediatric Cardiology Nurse Expert involves delivering up-to-date education and support to children, young individuals, and their families throughout their experience with paediatric services. The scope of this role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, supporting patients from birth to 16 years, whether at initial diagnosis or following antenatal identification, through cardiac interventions and surgeries, discharge, or transition to adult care. Your expert knowledge will be shared and utilized to support local healthcare services and educational institutions.
This role spans the Lifelong Network, assisting children and families engaged with the Paediatric Cardiology teams at our affiliated hospitals.
There are significant opportunities to participate in service development, local and national educational initiatives, as well as audit and research activities. Experience in these areas is highly desirable.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate kindness and compassion, possess excellent communication skills, be a collaborative team member, exhibit critical problem-solving abilities, manage multiple tasks effectively, and be proficient in basic computer applications such as Windows, PowerPoint, and Excel.
About Our Organization
Guy's and St Thomas' is one of the UK's most prominent and successful NHS foundation trusts, providing a comprehensive range of hospital and community services for individuals in south London, as well as specialized care for patients from broader regions, including services in cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory, and cardiovascular care.
Evelina London serves local children in the community and offers specialized services across the southeast, including cardiac, renal, and critical care. We lead several specialized service networks to ensure children receive care locally whenever possible while having access to specialized expertise when necessary. Our community services encompass health visiting, school nursing, and support for families of children with chronic conditions.
In February 2021, the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals became part of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, merging world-class expertise in heart and lung disease care and research. This merger presents a unique opportunity to establish a renowned heart and lung center, delivering the highest quality of care and conducting leading-edge research.
Job Responsibilities
The successful candidate will collaborate with the Paediatric Cardiology Clinical Nurse Specialist teams to support patients and their families.
They will serve as a knowledgeable resource for families and junior staff, expected to educate both families and staff regarding cardiac conditions.
