The Competition and Regulatory Finance team is tasked with delivering top-tier financial and commercial analysis to guide effective market interventions, shape policies, and safeguard the interests of both consumers and businesses.

Role Responsibilities

This position provides the opportunity to conduct financial and commercial analysis across various CMA cases, including market and merger assessments, regulatory appeals, and competition enforcement actions.

You will collaborate with a dynamic and expanding team of approximately 130 economists, econometricians, data scientists, and statisticians, based in multiple locations.

Examples of analytical tasks you may lead include:

  • Evaluating suitable rates of return for regulatory reviews or specific sectors under scrutiny.
  • Assessing the financial performance of firms through economic profitability analysis.
  • Examining cost structures and business strategies of companies.
  • Analyzing corporate finance decisions and strategic options for firms.
  • Investigating market entry or exit strategies of businesses.

You will engage with CMA colleagues in multidisciplinary project teams, managing financial and commercial contributions to cases, defining project scopes, overseeing quantitative analyses, providing insights, ensuring quality, and mitigating project risks.

Additionally, you may assist in identifying and implementing practical solutions to the challenges we encounter.

You will also play a role in fostering the growth and intellectual development of the team and the broader finance and business community.

Candidate Profile

Applicants must demonstrate evidence and examples for each of the following criteria:

  • A post-graduate qualification in business, finance, economics, or accounting (such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CFA, MSc, or MBA) or equivalent professional experience.
  • Extensive experience in financial and/or commercial analysis, ideally including regulatory finance, economic profitability assessments, and a solid understanding of business models across various industries.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate complex technical analyses to non-technical audiences, both verbally and in writing.
  • Capability to build and maintain constructive relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Commitment to personal development and the development of others.
