PRIVATE EQUITY PORTFOLIO ANALYST

Maven Capital Partners, a division of Mattioli Woods, is seeking a Portfolio Analyst to support our investment initiatives. This position will report directly to the Portfolio Director.

The primary objective of this role is to assist the senior portfolio management team in enhancing value within the private equity investment portfolio. This includes monitoring growth trajectories and cash flow requirements against established plans, conducting thorough analyses, and preparing comprehensive reports for the Maven investment committee to assess progress. The selected candidate will collaborate with the portfolio team to provide strategic support and insights to the management teams of investee companies, critically evaluating strategies, aiding in the execution of value enhancement plans, and leveraging professional network connections as necessary, all aimed at maximizing shareholder value.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the portfolio management function by participating in board meetings of investee companies and engaging with management teams to offer strategic insights and constructive feedback.
  • Maintain regular communication with portfolio companies to ensure timely provision of essential information.
  • Assist in the management of investee businesses to comprehend the dynamics of growth, including the analysis of financial statements and board reports.
  • Contribute to the preparation of detailed and insightful monthly and quarterly performance updates and reviews for individual and consolidated small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the portfolio.
  • Update the fund administration system with monthly financial performance data and quarterly valuation metrics for investee companies.
  • Assist in the formulation of investment committee proposals for follow-on investments or modifications to investment terms.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the line manager or a member of the leadership team that align with the role's scope and purpose.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong analytical skills – numerate with the ability to research new industry sectors, assimilate information swiftly, and draw appropriate conclusions and recommendations.
  • Proficient Excel modeling skills.
  • Clear and professional verbal and written communication style, with a keen attention to detail.
  • A collaborative team player capable of working effectively with colleagues at all levels.
  • Excellent relationship management skills – able to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Resilient and resourceful in supporting the portfolio management function during challenging situations with investee businesses.
  • Strong organizational skills – capable of multitasking and meeting deadlines.
  • Business acumen – understanding of the commercial environment in which businesses operate and a professional approach to engaging with investee companies.
  • A degree in a relevant quantitative discipline.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possession of or progress towards a professional accountancy or investment-related qualification.
