Position Overview
We are pleased to announce an opportunity for a Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to become a vital member of our Neonatal Unit.
We are seeking dedicated full-time or part-time Neonatal Nurses who are eager to collaborate with our established and supportive neonatal team, ensuring the delivery of exceptional neonatal care.
Our Neonatal Unit is a dynamic local facility within the East of England Neonatal network, catering to infants requiring intensive care, high dependency, and special care.
Additionally, we oversee a 6-bedded Transitional Care Unit within the postnatal ward. Our commitment lies in providing high-quality, evidence-based practices that address the needs of both parents and infants, emphasizing family-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Take charge of the Neonatal unit regularly, serving as the shift coordinator and fulfilling designated management responsibilities.
- Be accountable for assessing care requirements, developing, implementing, and evaluating care programs independently.
- Actively engage in and promote professional development and foster a learning environment.
- Provide clinical, educational, and emotional support to parents and caregivers.
- Offer clear clinical leadership to staff, stepping in for the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse when necessary.
Qualifications and Skills
Essential
- Registered Nurse (RGN/Midwife/Child) with NMC.
- Neonatal Intensive Care qualification.
- Current NLS certification.
- Teaching and assessing qualification or mentorship module, along with Safeguarding Children training (Level 1-3).
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Desirable
- Certificate in leadership and management training.
- Appraisal training.
- Degree in Children's/Neonatal Nursing.
Knowledge Requirements
Essential
- Comprehensive neonatal nursing knowledge, integrating theoretical and practical aspects.
- Understanding of complaint handling and clinical incidents.
- Familiarity with risk management and health and safety protocols.
- Knowledge of safeguarding children.
- Awareness of audit processes, reporting, and action planning.
Desirable
- Up-to-date knowledge of research developments in neonatal care.
- Active involvement in research/audit initiatives.
- Familiarity with the Neonatal network.
Experience Requirements
Essential
- Prior experience at Band 6 level, including shift leading or nurse-in-charge roles.
- Experience in emergency situations within neonatal and maternity settings.
- Previous mentoring or coaching experience.
- Involvement in the formulation and monitoring of policies and guidelines.
- Experience in change management.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively and influence multidisciplinary teams.
Desirable
- Management and leadership experience.
