Family Court Adviser (Social Worker), Public and Private Law

Salary Range: £41,550 - £46,332

Location: Chelmsford (covering Essex, Southend, and Thurrock)

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Family Court Adviser (Social Worker) to join our Public and Private Law division in Chelmsford, responsible for the Essex (North or South), Thurrock, and Southend regions.

Our organization empowers professionals to operate in a hybrid environment, providing essential resources and support to ensure we effectively advocate for children and young people during critical family court proceedings.

Having received an 'outstanding' rating from Ofsted in early 2024, we are motivated to continuously improve our services for children and families.

Our large team operates across the Essex, Thurrock, and Southend Local Authority areas, which is divided into three specialized teams:

  • Team 1: Southend/Thurrock
  • Team 2: South Chelmsford, Basildon, Grays, Harlow, and Epping
  • Team 3: North Essex (Clacton, Colchester, North Chelmsford, Braintree, Harwich)

While families are primarily assigned based on geographical areas, flexibility to travel across the county may be required based on demand and team capacity.

Work Environment

This role is part of a team based in Chelmsford, with flexible and remote working options available. Proximity to the office is not a critical factor in this position.

Role Responsibilities

As a member of the Public and Private Law team, Family Court Advisers engage in cases where families need assistance in determining the best arrangements for the welfare and safety of children, or where local authorities have significant concerns that necessitate Cafcass involvement. Family Court Advisers conduct direct work with children, gather their perspectives, and represent these views in court through written reports and testimony.

Candidate Profile

This role is fulfilling yet challenging. Candidates must be registered social workers with Social Work England, possessing strong organizational skills, resilience, and the ability to work autonomously. A minimum of three years of experience working with children and families is required.
