About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Family Court Adviser (Social Worker) to join our Public and Private Law division in Chelmsford, responsible for the Essex (North or South), Thurrock, and Southend regions.
Our organization empowers professionals to work in a hybrid model, providing necessary resources and support to ensure we effectively advocate for children and young people during crucial family court proceedings.
We take pride in our 'outstanding' rating from Ofsted, achieved in early 2024, and remain committed to continuous improvement in our services for children and families.
Our extensive team operates across the Essex, Thurrock, and Southend Local Authority areas, divided into three specialized teams:
- Team 1: Southend/Thurrock
- Team 2: South Chelmsford, Basildon, Grays, Harlow, and Epping
- Team 3: North Essex (Clacton, Colchester, North Chelmsford, Braintree, Harwich)
While your primary focus will be on families within these designated areas, flexibility to travel across the county may be required based on operational needs.
Work Environment
This role is part of a collaborative team based in Chelmsford, with flexible and remote working options available. Proximity to the office is not a critical factor in your role.

Role Responsibilities
As a Family Court Adviser, you will engage in various cases where families seek assistance in determining the best arrangements for the welfare and safety of their children, or where local authorities have significant concerns necessitating Cafcass involvement. Your role will involve direct engagement with children, understanding their perspectives, and representing their interests in court through detailed reports and advocacy.
Candidate Profile
This position is rewarding yet challenging. Candidates must be registered social workers with Social Work England, possessing strong organizational skills, resilience, and the ability to work autonomously. A minimum of three years' experience working with children and families is essential.
