Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory Technician to join our Cement Quality team at Breedon Group plc. As a Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality of our cement products by conducting laboratory tests and analyses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sample Collection and Analysis: Collect and analyze incoming material, in-process samples, and cement finished products to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Test Data Reporting: Report all test data in a timely and accurate manner to ensure that data is accurately recorded and reported.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that all laboratory testing is conducted according to relevant standards, both internal and external, to a high level of precision and accuracy.
  • Customer Requests: Assist the laboratory supervisor with managing customer requests and ensuring they are dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Assist in the first-level inspection and maintenance of laboratory equipment, including laboratory reagents, and basic learning and operation of the automatic laboratory sampling system.
  • Calibration: Assist in the calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and precision.
  • Good Laboratory Practices: Ensure that good laboratory practices are maintained, including COSHH and housekeeping, to ensure a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Sample Storage and Records: Maintain sample storage, sample retains, and relevant records to ensure accurate tracking and reporting.
  • External Audits: Work with external auditors for the product certification scheme for sampling and testing.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant statutory legislation and internal company policies.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: Minimum 5 GCSEs grade 4-9 to include English, Maths, and Science, A-levels in sciences (BSc - desirable), and IOSH working safely (desirable).
  • Experience: Previous laboratory experience, particularly in materials science or construction, and basic Microsoft Office experience.
  • Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to work with personnel at all levels in the business, working with other team members to organize workload effectively, ability to manage data and transpose information with accuracy, attention to detail, experience in a variety of laboratory testing techniques, basic knowledge of core IT systems, managing chemical reagents safely and responsibly, ability to problem solve, basic understanding of British Testing Standards or equivalent, and basic understanding of business management systems including relevant Standards e.g. ISO 14001, ISO45001 & ISO 9001.
