Job Title: Laboratory Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Technician to join our team at Breedon Group plc. As a Laboratory Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality of our cement products by conducting laboratory tests and analyses.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect and analyze incoming materials, in-process samples, and cement finished products to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Report test data in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring that all laboratory testing is conducted to a high level of precision and accuracy.
  • Assist the laboratory supervisor in managing customer requests and ensuring they are dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Perform first-level inspection and maintenance of laboratory equipment, including laboratory reagents, and assist in the calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Ensure good laboratory practices are maintained, including COSHH and housekeeping, and maintain sample storage, sample retains, and relevant records.
  • Work with external auditors for the product certification scheme for sampling and testing.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant statutory legislation and internal company policies.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 GCSEs grade 4-9 to include English, Maths, and Science.
  • A-levels in sciences (BSc - desirable).
  • IOSH working safely - desirable.
Desirable Skills:
  • Previous laboratory experience, particularly in materials science or construction.
  • Basic Microsoft Office experience.
  • Data handling and reporting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work with personnel at all levels in the business.
  • Working with other team members to organize workload effectively.
  • The ability to manage data and transpose information with accuracy.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Experience in a variety of laboratory testing techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of core IT systems, including MS Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Managing chemical reagents safely and responsibly.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Basic understanding of British Testing Standards or equivalent.
  • Previous experience of working with external auditors.
  • Basic cement manufacturing would be desirable.
