Job Title: Laser Engineer

Job Summary:

Leonardo is seeking a highly skilled Laser Engineer to join our Radar and Advanced Targeting line of business in Edinburgh. As a Laser Engineer, you will be part of a world-class optics and laser development team that provides leading-edge solutions into the global defence sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop compact and efficient solid-state laser designs
  • Investigate new technologies and engineering capabilities to address emerging business opportunities
  • Apply computational modelling techniques for the analysis of solid-state lasers, including nonlinear optical systems
  • Conduct practical work within Leonardo's Laser Centre of Excellence Laboratories

Requirements:

  • Experience working in a laser product development and/or laser applied research environment
  • Previous ownership of a laser design which has been manufactured
  • Experience in the design, characterisation and manufacture of lasers using appropriate commercial tools
  • Advanced understanding of laser physics and solid-state laser engineering
  • Appreciation of mechanical and electrical design aspects of laser systems
