Job Title: Laser Engineer

About the Role:

Leonardo is seeking a highly skilled Laser Engineer to join our Radar and Advanced Targeting line of business in Edinburgh. As a key member of our optics and laser development team, you will be responsible for developing compact and efficient solid-state laser designs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop laser systems for emerging defence applications
  • Investigate new technologies and engineering capabilities to address business opportunities
  • Apply computational modelling techniques for the analysis of solid-state lasers
  • Conduct practical work within Leonardo's Laser Centre of Excellence Laboratories

Requirements:

  • Experience working in a laser product development and/or laser applied research environment
  • Previous ownership of a laser design that has been manufactured
  • Experience in the design, characterisation and manufacture of lasers using commercial tools
  • Advanced understanding of laser physics and solid-state laser engineering
  • Appreciation of mechanical and electrical design aspects of laser systems
