Role Overview: The Paediatric Outpatients department is seeking a dedicated Patient Access Specialist to enhance our dynamic administrative team.

This position offers a unique opportunity to positively influence the experiences of children, young individuals, and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary contact for patients and service users, providing expert knowledge in scheduling procedures and operations.
  • Collaborate closely with clinical staff to manage patient bookings, distribute reports, and address inquiries via phone and email.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate appointment scheduling in partnership with clinical and specialty management teams.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold the highest standards of care and compassion.

Ideal Candidate: The successful candidate will possess strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, and a keen attention to detail. Excellent communication skills are essential.

While prior experience in the NHS is not mandatory, a commitment to patient confidentiality is crucial. Comprehensive training will be provided to ensure a smooth transition into the role.

Main Duties:

  • Act as the first point of contact for all patient access inquiries.
  • Ensure adherence to departmental guidelines during the vetting process of new referral letters.
  • Schedule appointments based on clinical urgency and departmental protocols.
  • Communicate with patients to confirm convenient appointment times.
  • Implement reminder systems for appointments, including letters and phone calls.
  • Provide courteous and efficient service to patients in person and over the phone.
  • Address individual patient needs, ensuring appropriate support is available for their appointments.

This role is vital in supporting our front-line services and enhancing the care we provide to our patients.
