Job Title: Public Health Specialist Midwife

Lead the Public Health agenda within the maternity service to support mothers-to-be in improving their health, thereby enhancing the health of their unborn child.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and deliver the Public Health agenda within Maternity Services, reporting to the Consultant Midwife.
  2. Collaborate with the Consultant Midwife and specialist midwives to create the most effective care pathways, identifying optimal opportunities for public health input.
  3. Focus on improving outcomes for women with modifiable risk factors, such as smoking, obesity, and breastfeeding, and develop processes to increase immunization uptake year-over-year.
  4. Support service coordinators in writing and revising maternity guidelines related to public health agendas.
  5. Assist the Infant Feeding Coordinator in embedding UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative Standards within the service and preparing for UNICEF BFI Accreditation.
  6. Lead conversations with women and families regarding weight management during pregnancy and refer to relevant services.
  7. Revise and refresh the immunization strategy, utilizing NHSE validated data for monthly returns.
  8. Plan and implement training on Maternity Public Health Issues.
  9. Collaborate with healthcare professionals, offering leadership, guidance, and supervision.
  10. Assist with quality improvements and take responsibility for Key Performance Indicators and report writing.
Person Specification:
  • Current NMC midwifery registration.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Awareness of local and national policies and strategies in Public Health and Maternity.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Leadership Qualification.
  • Project management experience.
Experience:
  • Recent experience in all areas of Maternity Services, including substantial experience in Public Health Promotion.
  • Evidence of leading or participating in an audit program.
