Job Title: Public Health Specialist Midwife

As a Public Health Specialist Midwife at University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust, you will play a crucial role in leading the Public Health agenda within the maternity service. Your primary objective will be to support mothers-to-be in improving their health, thereby positively impacting the health of their unborn child.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and deliver the Public Health Agenda within Maternity Services, ensuring alignment with local and national policies and strategies.
  2. Collaborate with Consultant Midwives and specialist midwives to create effective care pathways, identifying opportunities for public health input to maximize impact.
  3. Focus on improving outcomes for women with modifiable risk factors such as smoking, obesity, and breastfeeding, and develop processes to increase immunization uptake.
  4. Support service coordinators in writing and revising maternity guidelines related to public health agendas.
  5. Embed the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative Standards within the service and prepare for UNICEF BFI Accreditation.
  6. Lead conversations with women and families regarding weight management during pregnancy and refer to appropriate services.
  7. Revise and refresh the immunization strategy, utilizing validated data from NHSE for monthly returns.
  8. Plan and implement training on Maternity Public Health Issues.
  9. Collaborate with healthcare professionals, offering leadership, guidance, and supervision to colleagues.
  10. Assist with delivering quality improvements and take responsibility for Key Performance Indicators and report writing.
Person Specification:
  • Current NMC midwifery registration.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Awareness of local and national policies and strategies in Public Health and Maternity.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Leadership Qualification.
  • Project management experience.
Experience:
  • Recent experience in all areas of Maternity Services, including substantial experience of Public Health Promotion.
  • Evidence of leading or participating in an audit program.
