Hours:
Standard working hours are 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Overview:
Red Chilli Recruitment is a prominent provider of ecological and arboricultural services across the UK, collaborating with clients in both public and private sectors.

About the Role:
As a Lead Environmental Consultant, you will join a small, professional, and welcoming team working remotely. Your responsibilities will involve engaging with a diverse range of clients, including governmental bodies, housing associations, and private sector entities.

In this role, you will support the Environmental Team in expanding operations within the mid and southern regions of England. The ideal candidate should thrive in a dynamic consultancy environment and manage multiple projects effectively to support the existing specialized team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the technical environmental and ecological authority on projects
  • Ensure adherence to relevant legislation, planning conditions, and associated documentation to mitigate risks and delays
  • Oversee contractors and ensure compliance with protected species licensing and environmental safeguards
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior team members
  • Conduct extended phase 1 habitat and UKHabs surveys
  • Perform protected species surveys
  • Develop mitigation strategies and habitat creation plans
  • Act as an Ecological Clerk of Works
  • Prepare technical reports for planning submissions
  • Conduct Biodiversity Net Gain Assessments
  • Provide ecological input into Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs)

Experience and Skills Required:
  • Degree in a relevant scientific or environmental discipline
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ecology, relevant legislation, survey methodologies, and the planning process
  • Experience in ecological surveys and the environmental sector
  • Proficient in ecological site surveys, including protected species assessments and Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA)
  • Level 2 Bat license holder or close to achieving it
  • Skilled in using and interpreting bat recording analysis software
  • Experience as an Ecological Clerk of Works
  • Minimum of 4 years delivering projects in a competitive commercial environment
  • Stakeholder engagement experience with organizations such as Wildlife Trusts and Environmental Agencies
  • Data collection and analysis expertise
  • Strong report writing skills, including technical documentation
  • Experience in drafting fee proposals, project management, and client relations
  • Membership in CIEEM or equivalent is preferred
  • Experience in producing Protected Species Survey Licences, particularly for bats
  • People management experience with a willingness to mentor junior staff
  • Full membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management or working towards it
  • Experience in linear infrastructure and property development projects is advantageous
  • GIS proficiency
  • Full clean UK driving license
