Lead Computational Biologist

Principal Bioinformatics Scientist
Location: Cambridge
Work Arrangement: Hub and Hybrid, Onsite or Remote
We are thrilled to present an exceptional opportunity for a Principal Bioinformatics Scientist to become a vital part of our team in Cambridge. In this role, you will collaborate closely with engineering, chemistry, and assay teams on innovative R&D initiatives aimed at advancing new sequencing technologies and platforms.
This position is designed for a seasoned professional who will leverage their profound expertise in Bioinformatics to spearhead and drive various projects. We welcome candidates from diverse locations, offering flexibility with Hub and Hybrid, onsite or remote arrangements within the UK.
As a key member of the Bioinformatics team, you will have the chance to make significant contributions by supporting bioinformatics functions across interdisciplinary programs, which include:
- Establishing bioinformatics objectives and specifications
- Overseeing data analysis operations
- Creating innovative tools and workflows
- Influencing project direction and strategy
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Proficient programming capabilities with experience in at least one programming language, such as Python or R
- Understanding of next-generation sequencing methodologies
- Expertise in analyzing and visualizing next-generation sequencing data and extensive datasets
- Familiarity with standard bioinformatics workflows and data formats
- Comprehensive knowledge of statistical and biological principles
- Experience working in Unix/Linux environments, including shell scripting and High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster operations
- Background in designing or developing automated workflows (preferred)
- Excellent communication skills, with a focus on collaboration within a diverse team
Educational Background:
Masters or PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, data science, engineering, mathematics, or a related field
