Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Exercise Science

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to fill the position of Assistant Professor of Exercise Science. This is a tenure-track position that requires a strong background in exercise physiology, clinical kinesiology, and/or biomechanics, as well as clinical experience in rehabilitative settings.
Key Responsibilities- Teach classes within the undergraduate Kinesiotherapy, Health Fitness Instructor, and Health Wellness Rehabilitation concentrations of the Exercise Science degree.
- Assist with clinical supervision of Exercise Science/Kinesiotherapy majors.
- Collaborate with department faculty to update and develop CAAHEP certification reports for the accrediting bodies of the American Kinesiotherapy Association (AKTA) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
- Advise and mentor students, hold office hours as designated by the University, engage in program development, curriculum reviews, and assessment of student learning.
- Provide support for program coordination and administration, such as recruitment, admissions, and programming.
- Serve on Departmental, School, and University committees.
- Conduct scholarly research, publish in respected refereed scholarly journals and/or academic presses, and participate in other scholarly activities to secure external funding.
- A Ph.D. (ABD considered) in a related field such as Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Human Movement Sciences, or Rehabilitative Sciences from an accredited program is necessary.
- Candidates should demonstrate expertise in the following disciplines: Exercise Physiology, Clinical Kinesiology, and/or Biomechanics.
- Candidates must possess considerable knowledge and 1-3 years of independent clinical practice in rehabilitative settings as a Kinesiotherapist, Physical Therapist, Athletic Trainer, and/or Exercise Physiologist.
- Preference will be given to candidates that are licensed and/or certified professionals in rehabilitation settings.
- Candidates that possess Registered Kinesiotherapist (RKT) certification and knowledge of CAAHEP accreditation standards and procedures are highly preferred.
- Candidates experienced with short-term and long-term rehabilitative exercise programs for people transitioning out of hospital-based treatment are preferred also.
- Preference will be given to candidates with a record of teaching courses related to Human Movement (i.e., Exercise Physiology, Anatomy & Physiology, Kinesiology, etc.) and a demonstrated ability for effective verbal and written communication to a diverse student-body audience.
- A record of published research in the field of Kinesiology, Rehabilitative, and/or Human Movement Sciences is preferred as well.
