We are looking for a Project Execution Manager to enhance and cultivate the connections between the Advanced Propulsion Centre and our project consortia.

The successful candidate will serve as the project authority within the APC, acquiring a comprehensive understanding of the project and the technical and commercial goals of the organizations involved; the deliverables and milestones necessary to meet these goals, as well as the risks and challenges that may impact this delivery.

The Project Execution Manager will engage with a range of key automotive, mobility, and related supply chain companies based in the UK, while also collaborating with funding delivery teams to provide project assistance and ensure successful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management and Relationship Development:

  • Assist and collaborate on high-value R&D and capital projects, from the proposal phase to successful completion.
  • Establish strong relationships with consortium partners and stakeholders.
  • Network with influential figures in the automotive sector and academia to enhance your capabilities.

Advocacy and Leadership:

  • Act as a champion for successful technical and commercial project results across all partner organizations into the APC and broader stakeholder community.
  • Participate in regular formal and informal meetings with project partners, leading discussions and presentations as required.

Progress Reporting and Risk Assessment:

  • Deliver precise reporting on project progress, including key performance indicators and risk factors.
  • Comprehend detailed financial forecasts, incorporating risk profiles at the project level for financial budget reporting.

Governance Support:

  • Collaborate closely with the Monitoring Service Provider appointed by Innovate UK and other delivery partners to ensure effective governance practices and clarity for the project.
  • Engage with the Department for Business and Trade, addressing inquiries related to your project portfolio.

Technical Insight and Research Contribution:

  • Develop a deep understanding of key technologies being advanced during the project.
  • Stay updated on innovations in this field and provide research insights to the APC central team from your project partners.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

The ideal candidate will possess experience in some of the following areas:

  • Project and/or account management experience.
  • Engineering or science education at the graduate level. A background in areas such as energy storage, vehicle energy management, electric machines, power electronics, automotive engineering, or systems engineering is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of financial forecasting.
  • Experience collaborating with customer development teams on the introduction of new automotive technologies and processes with either OEMs or the supply chain.
  • Familiarity with new product development cycles, including understanding TRL/MRL challenges; early-stage research; and working with academia and partners throughout the supply chain.
  • Confidence in engaging with and reporting to senior and executive-level stakeholders.
  • Comfort in presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Understanding of the government funding landscape, with a willingness to develop knowledge of EU state aid law.
  • Interest in future technologies and market trends, with the ability to relate them to the UK automotive industry and the opportunities they may present.
