Job Overview

Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a leading healthcare provider in the region, renowned for its expertise in ophthalmic care and major trauma services.

This role will play a critical part in leading the clinical pharmacy service for both surgical and ophthalmic services, working closely with specialist and principal pharmacists to deliver high-quality patient care.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring safe and effective medication management, collaborating with surgeons, ophthalmologists, and other healthcare professionals to provide clinical expertise and support to patients and staff.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement clinical pharmacy services to meet the needs of the Surgery & Ophthalmology Care Group, ensuring seamless pharmaceutical care on discharge and liaison with other pharmacists and healthcare professionals.
  • Act as a deputy for the Principal Pharmacist, participating in multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective, patient-focused pharmaceutical care.
  • Provide interface and discharge liaison, and support to wards and units within the Care Group, promoting the safe use of medicines and developing local guidelines.
  • Lead on the provision of clinical pharmacy services to sub-specialties within the Care Group, ensuring a high level of clinical pharmacy input and acting as a clinical role model.
  • Supervise rotational staff at ward level, promoting cost-effective prescribing and auditing usage of medicines in the Care Group.
  • Assist in financial reporting to the Care Group and drug budget management, ensuring the effective use of resources.
Requirements
  • Registered Pharmacist with 1 year of competency-assessed and examined professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent qualification.
  • Registered Independent Prescriber or willingness to complete.
  • Previous relevant specialist clinical experience.
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent qualification.
