Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a Regional Results Coordinator within the Generation Study, operating under the South East Genomic Medicine Service. This role is pivotal in ensuring the seamless transition of newborns and their families who receive a 'suspected condition' result from the research study to the National Health Service (NHS) for confirmatory testing and appropriate care pathways.

About the Generation Study

The Generation Study is a groundbreaking research initiative led by Genomics England, aimed at evaluating the clinical advantages, challenges, and logistics of implementing whole genome sequencing as a screening method for approximately 250 treatable genetic disorders in newborns. This study will provide testing for 100,000 newborns across NHS recruiting Trusts in England, enhancing the speed of diagnosis and access to treatments for rare genetic conditions.

Key Responsibilities

In this newly created role, the post holder will:
  • Act as the primary contact for 'condition suspected' results, collaborating closely with Genomics England and local NHS Trusts.
  • Facilitate the smooth transition of patients from the research study to NHS care, ensuring effective communication with newborn screening services.
  • Support specialist teams in guiding parents through the results return process.
  • Work in conjunction with the South East GMS Generation Study team and local research teams to establish consistent care approaches and robust referral pathways.
  • Monitor activity and capture outcomes to inform the study and enhance patient care quality.

This position is hosted within the South East Genomic Medicine Service, which collaborates with regional Clinical Genetics Services to deliver standardized genomic testing pathways. Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for candidates with:
  • A background in nursing, midwifery, or genetic counseling, with relevant professional registration.
  • Experience in genomics, clinical genetics, or NHS screening programs, with a focus on fetal medicine or pediatrics.
  • Proven ability to work across organizational boundaries to achieve shared objectives.
  • Experience in developing and delivering educational programs for clinical staff.
  • Experience in managing or conducting clinical research projects.

Skills Required

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in IT, including MS Office and hospital database systems.
  • Evidence of counseling skills in a clinical environment is desirable.
