About the Role

At Superscript, we are seeking a highly skilled Commercial Underwriting Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for evaluating and analyzing insurance applications for Small to Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and analyze insurance applications from SMEs to determine the risk level and appropriate premium pricing.
  • Underwrite new and renewal SME commercial insurance policies in line with company guidelines, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
  • Approve or decline insurance applications based on risk assessment, underwriting guidelines, and company policy.
  • Communicate with our sales team to gather necessary information, clarify details, and explain underwriting decisions.
  • Monitor and manage the performance of the SME insurance portfolio to ensure profitability and growth.
  • Collaborate with the product team to create or modify insurance products tailored to the SME market.
  • Work closely with other underwriters, claims adjusters, and the sales team to ensure a seamless underwriting process.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years experience in commercial underwriting, preferably within the UK SME market.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to assess risk and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex underwriting decisions clearly and effectively.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly in documentation and data analysis.
  • Strong customer service orientation with a focus on meeting the needs of clients while balancing profitability.
  • Possession of their Cert CII qualification.
