Lead Broadcast Systems Engineer

POSITION OVERVIEW

This position is accountable to the Principal Technical Architect and collaborates closely with the Engineering division, engaging with essential Sales, Business, and Project leaders, while also interfacing directly with Suppliers and Clients. Operating in a dynamic setting, particularly around live broadcast operations, precision and meticulousness are critical.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The role encompasses:

  • Enhancing and broadening current solutions to meet new business demands.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to gather requirements and provide preliminary cost estimates and designs, facilitating the advancement of commercial initiatives.
  • Iteratively developing designs and working in partnership to implement new services, thereby supporting the growth of our linear broadcast offerings.
  • This may involve launching a new client or channel on an existing platform, implementing a technology change or supplier system within a platform, or transitioning from an outdated multi-client platform.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Criteria:

  • Robust experience in broadcast engineering or technical operations within a commercial context.
  • Proven track record in leading the requirements gathering, design, and execution of technical systems and services.
  • Experience in modifying or delivering solutions across various suppliers.
  • Familiarity with AWS Cloud, Edge Playout, and IP-based linear distribution.
  • Background in linear playout, encoding, and distribution, preferably with tier 1 and live channels.
  • Proficient in gathering client requirements and articulating complex technical systems.
  • Capability to organize and plan modifications and broader projects with both internal and external teams.
  • Experience in guiding the delivery of projects into Business As Usual (BAU) operations and support.
  • Understanding of IP networking and fundamental InfoSec principles for broadcast settings.
  • Ability to document and illustrate technical solutions, diagrams, and testing scripts.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of Codecs, DAI, SCTE104/35, and ad-insertion techniques.
  • Familiarity with Subtitle and Audio Languaging processes.
  • Understanding of broadcast file formats and file delivery mechanisms.
