About the Role:

The Commonwealth of Virginia's Office of Institutional Advancement is seeking three (3) Philanthropy Officers to build enduring relationships between the university, public sector, and community organizations. This role will maintain stewardship contacts with individual, corporate, and foundation donors, adhering to the highest ethical standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a highly effective development and donor services program, working closely with the Vice President and staff to support the mission and goals of Virginia State University.
  • Structure and implement cultivation and solicitation strategies to identify and understand the needs and interests of individual, corporate, and foundation donors.
  • Research and identify individual, corporate, and foundation donors (10K+).
  • Work in a fast-paced, flexible, collegial, goal-oriented, and entrepreneurial environment.
  • Collaborate with fellow advancement team members, volunteers, and other university representatives to cultivate and solicit donors for institution-wide priorities.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Possession of a high degree of integrity, initiative, and professionalism as well as sound judgment.
  • Self-starter with a resourceful and entrepreneurial spirit and an ability to act decisively.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside of standard business hours, including some weekends and evenings, and to travel on occasion.
  • Experience in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE).
  • Minimum of four (4) years of demonstrated progressive success in individual, corporate, and foundation donors ($10K +) fundraising.
  • Fundraising experience at a Historical Black College and University (HBCU) preferred.
