Job Overview

Role Objective:

The primary objective of this position is to oversee, develop, and enhance a team of electrical engineers and auto electricians focused on creating battery electric classic vehicles that meet safety, performance, and customer satisfaction standards while adhering to company timelines and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Head of Whole Vehicle and Head of T+D to refine low voltage (LV) and high voltage (HV) architectures in compliance with current regulations, functional safety, cost efficiency, and performance benchmarks.
  • Oversee the design and specifications of low voltage wiring harnesses.
  • Advise mechanical design engineers on optimal practices for harness routing and securing.
  • Conduct all necessary calculations and specifications for sizing LV and HV components, including wiring, fuses, relays, and IVTs.
  • Create and manage schematics using Arcadia and Visio, ensuring timely updates and releases.
  • Develop end-of-line pass/fail criteria and signoff protocols.
  • Assist the control systems team in software development, testing, analysis, and evaluation.
  • Authorize all engineering designs and drawings, obtaining necessary approvals for safety-critical components from the Head of Whole Vehicle.
  • Support the engineering bill of materials, assess parts costs, and evaluate parts risk.
  • Manage, prioritize, and delegate engineering-related corrective actions effectively.
  • Coordinate with program management and engineering leads to ensure timely progression of designs through milestones and gateways.
  • Participate in recruitment efforts by interviewing potential candidates and facilitating the hiring process.

Required Skills:

  • Proven expertise in LV and HV system design within the automotive sector.
  • Strong capability in performing efficient root cause analysis.
  • Proficient in Visio and Arcadia or comparable industry-standard software.
  • In-depth understanding of LV and HV component design and construction, including wires, connectors, insulation, and shielding.
  • Familiarity with automotive standards and communication protocols.
  • Solid grasp of fundamental principles, with the ability to substantiate designs through hand calculations.
  • Meticulous approach to release procedures, drawing management, and parts tracking.

Qualifications:

(Essential)

  • Familiarity with CAN bus technology.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience.

(Desirable)

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field.
  • Over 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of LIN bus technology.
