Job Overview

Position: Lead Mechanical Engineer – Propulsion Systems

Location: Flexible hybrid working arrangements available.

Compensation: Competitive salary package.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct the engineering design of systems and components for advanced naval submarines.
  • Conduct functional design tasks, including modeling and analytical assessments.
  • Create comprehensive design documentation, including Verification & Validation records and safety justifications.
  • Assist in the specification and procurement of components, collaborating closely with suppliers.
  • Perform peer reviews and checks to ensure adherence to engineering governance standards.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in the design and specification of rotating machinery, including gears, shafts, bearings, and couplings; experience with electrical machines is a plus.
  • Expertise in pressure vessel design, including pressure piping and vessels compliant with international standards.
  • Understanding of the engineering lifecycle from concept through to disposal.
  • Chartered engineer status or actively pursuing professional accreditation.

About the Propulsion Team:

Joining the Propulsion Team means engaging in the design and development of propulsion systems across all major equipment, while also specifying and supporting the procurement of propulsion components. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence and shape designs for a new submarine program. Experience in sectors such as Maritime, Defence, Aerospace, Oil and Gas, or Nuclear is advantageous.
