Position Overview
We invite candidates to consider a trainee band 4 position, with the possibility of annex 21 applicability discussed during the interview process.
To qualify for this training program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Candidates should possess a Level 3 qualification or higher, such as an Advanced Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care, a BTEC National Diploma (pass), or a Certificate (merit). Additionally, two A-levels (including maths and English GCSE grade C) or an Open University Course in Health and Social Care-related subjects like SDK125, or a subject-related NVQ level 3 (including key skills in English and maths at level 2) with a Skills for Health: Bridging Skills for Higher Education course are required.
- Maths & English GCSE grade C/4+ or Functional skills level 2
- Care Certificate - to be completed upon employment; this course is also supported at East Sussex College
- Band 3 employees considering this band 4 trainee role and meeting the above criteria are encouraged to apply
Candidates with relevant and substantial work experience, even without a recognized level three qualification, will be evaluated on an individual basis.
This program spans two years, during which Assistant Practitioners will attend university one day a week throughout the term and will have one day per week dedicated to off-the-job learning outside of term. Candidates must be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week.

Job Responsibilities
The Associate Practitioner role requires specific competencies and skills relevant to the department.
At this level, the post holder must possess factual and theoretical knowledge of principles, procedures, processes, and concepts within their area of work.
The work of the post holder is guided by Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols, or systems of work, but they must exercise judgment, plan activities, contribute to service development, and demonstrate self-improvement.
The post holder will also provide practical training to less experienced staff, including students.
Qualifications
Essential
- A good level of general education, including A levels and GCSE or equivalent qualifications, including functional skills at level 2
- An advanced/higher-level apprenticeship, such as an Associate Practitioner apprenticeship or similar, and/or NVQ level 4 in a relevant subject or equivalent knowledge and experience
