Bury St Edmunds, United Kingdom West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust Full time

The Point of Care Testing (POCT) team are looking to recruit an Associate Practitioner to support POCT devices deployed within the Virtual Ward (VW). POCT, as the title suggests, is patient testing at or near the patient bedside. Meaning a faster turnaround time to results to allow for quicker diagnosis and treatment. Not only does this give the post holder the opportunity to work in an exciting and emerging area of Pathology, which has improving patient care at its core; it also provides the chance to work alongside another innovative development within healthcare. VWs have been created to support patients within their own homes and to reduce hospital admissions, providing multiple benefits to patients.

STAFF CAR PARKING

Staff Car Parking on the West Suffolk Hospital Site is eligible for individuals working outside of the core hours, 07:00 - 18:30.

For individuals working within the core hours, the Trust offers parking off site at the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club, which is serviced by a regular shuttle bus to and from the Hospital. Details of the bus timetable can be found in the on-line starter pack on the West Suffolk Hospital website.

As a POCT Associate Practitioner supporting the Virtual Ward (VW) your role will be to complete the day-to-day POCT tasks to ensure a smooth running of the service for the VW. Your duties will include:

- Troubleshooting devices, in addition to performing routine maintenance and decontamination procedures.
- Distributing and processing internal quality controls (IQCs) and external quality assessment (EQA) samples for POCT devices.
- Training POCT device users.
- Assisting with device verification and reagent batch validation.

To fulfil the role you will need to meet the following requirements:

- Have experience within the NHS or within a laboratory/pathology environment.
- Have good IT skills, including the use of the internet.
- Be able to work both in a team and as an individual.
- Be able to prioritise workload.
- Flexible approach to working hours and duties and able to respond to the needs of the service.
