The role of a Highway Works Inspector is essential in the execution of the Lancashire permit scheme, which involves the coordination and oversight of activities on public roadways. The inspector will conduct evaluations in accordance with the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 and the guidelines of the Lancashire permit scheme.

Inspectors are responsible for engaging with work operators, including utility companies and contractors, to ensure effective planning, coordination, and safety measures are implemented.

This position is vital for maintaining compliance with national standards and the Lancashire permit scheme, thereby minimizing delays and disruptions caused by ongoing works.

This is a full-time role (37 hours per week). The office base is located at Cuerden Way, Bamber Bridge; however, the successful candidate will be required to work across the entirety of Lancashire. The position entails a significant amount of outdoor work and driving, necessitating a full and valid driving license. The inspector will be provided with a Lancashire County Council vehicle for work purposes. Standard working hours are from 8 am to 4 pm, with a flexible schedule required to accommodate service demands, including a weekend working rota.
