We are seeking a Compassionate Care Senior Support Specialist to join our dedicated team.

The successful candidate will be an integral part of the Greenwich Mental Health Liaison Team (MHLT), focusing on providing compassionate follow-up calls to individuals who have visited the Emergency Department (ED) due to self-harm incidents.


The ideal candidate will possess strong engagement skills, demonstrating a motivating and positive demeanor to encourage patients to participate in meaningful conversations and to develop effective safety plans.

The role involves utilizing open and supportive dialogue to comprehend the patient’s circumstances, identify coping mechanisms, and explore their strengths, values, aspirations, and goals.

The post holder will adhere to the relevant Code of Conduct applicable to non-regulated nursing personnel.


Senior Healthcare Support Workers may have the opportunity to advance to a Nursing Associate or Assistant Practitioner role upon completion of requisite training and demonstration of necessary competencies.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct compassionate follow-up calls to patients presenting to ED after self-harm incidents.
  • Exhibit an empathetic understanding of mental health challenges.
  • Contribute to the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
  • Execute additional tasks identified in the crisis care plan in collaboration with senior MHLT members.
  • Provide essential support and advice to clients regarding practical strategies for managing self-harm.
  • Collaborate with patients to create personalized safety plans.
  • Maintain focus during telephone interactions, ensuring full attention is given to the patient and the conversation.
  • Undertake other duties that align with the band and nature of the position.

Responsibilities Overview:

  • Develop compassionate outreach to patients following self-harm presentations to ED.
  • Utilize skills to engage patients during calls, ensuring safety plans are established.

  • Address the needs of individuals with sensitivity to their diverse backgrounds.

  • Assist patients in identifying issues contributing to their crisis and facilitate resolution.

  • Engage in social, recreational, and therapeutic activities with patients and caregivers.
  • Document all client interactions accurately.
  • Understand risk management principles and utilize appropriate tools.

  • Promote user and carer involvement in care processes.
