Role Purpose

The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure that maintenance activities are executed to the highest standards, adhering to all established protocols and procedures. The main goal is to provide assurance and minimize risks to the operational railway.

You will offer technical expertise to assist in diagnosing faults and support Colas Rail and its fleet.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular inspections of all Colas Rail traction and rolling stock.
  • Prepare written reports on vehicle conditions and trends for management.
  • Perform special checks and assist with modifications.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to maintenance teams.
  • Execute quality checks and audits on both ongoing and completed work, confirming vehicle readiness post-repair.
  • Assist in investigating defects and faults.
  • Input data into the Asset Management System as needed.
  • Collect and report on agreed KPIs regarding maintenance performance.
  • Support Fleet Engineers during technical investigations and report compilation.
  • Travel to satellite locations to aid in resolving complex failures.
  • Assist with warranty processes.
  • Follow the freight engineering RACI guidelines.
  • Achieve competency across all relevant Colas Rail Freight vehicle types.
  • Evaluate project requirements from a technical standpoint.
  • Deliver work in compliance with business management, safety, and quality systems.
  • Oversee the manufacturing of components and modifications, including testing and commissioning activities.
  • Participate in the Duty Engineer 'on call' roster as required.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as necessary to meet operational needs.

Candidate Profile

Academic Qualifications:

  • Degree, Diploma, Certificate, or Engineering qualification in a relevant field, or substantial operational experience.

Professional Qualifications:

  • Apprentice-trained and/or relevant engineering qualifications.
  • Valid driving license.

Experience:

  • Experience in rolling stock maintenance (locomotives and wagons).
  • Ability to analyze and interpret engineering issues and provide recommendations.
  • Experience with quality management, RAMS, and asset management systems.

Other Skills:

  • Strong planning abilities.
  • Team-oriented with the capability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficient in IT.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Multi-skilled across various disciplines.
