About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance Department Leader to join our team at Aldi. As a key member of our logistics operations, you will be responsible for leading the MHE maintenance department and ensuring the availability and reliability of operational equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the MHE Maintenance Department: Oversee the maintenance of warehouse equipment, ensuring that all tasks are completed to the highest standards and that the site operation is always supported to achieve key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Mentor and Develop the Team: Guide, monitor, and develop the maintenance team to promote Aldi values and behaviors, while supporting the requirements and activities to deliver in full, on time, every time.
  • Implement Continuous Improvement: Support the implementation of opportunities for continuous improvement, ensuring that all maintenance procedures are completed to excellent standards.
  • Ensure Health and Safety Standards: Design and implement health and safety standards into maintenance tasks and modifications, monitoring risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Manage Maintenance Calendar: Ensure that all maintenance procedures are completed to excellent standards, enabling high performance and reliability of equipment.
  • Support Audits and Maintenance Strategies: Support audits of site performance and challenge current maintenance strategies to ensure maximum value is maintained.
  • Prioritize and Plan MHE Repairs: Prioritize and plan MHE repairs with minimal disruption in line with business needs.
  • Manage Legislative Requirements: Manage legislative requirements of maintenance on equipment, such as LOLER Certification.
  • Control Engineering Staff and Spend: Control the engineering staff and non-staff spend, identifying savings where possible.
  • Deliver Performance KPIs: Deliver performance KPIs such as safety compliance, spares management, cost control, and maintenance turnaround.
  • Maintain Documentation: Maintain all documentation relating to MHE maintenance and performance.
  • Identify Obsolescence Risk: Identify obsolescence risk and manage the total asset lifecycle of equipment.
  • Support Onsite Training: Support the onsite training team by providing technical specific elements of MHE training to frontline colleagues.
  • Complete 1-1s and PRs: Complete 1-1s and PRs, identifying and supporting development requirements for direct reports within their team.
  • Manage Staff Rota: Manage the staff rota, ensuring site engineering coverage is maintained with cost consideration.
  • Allocate Resources: Allocate resources, provide delivery timelines, and manage priorities.
  • Ensure Operational Expectations: Ensure that all operational expectations and daily ordering fulfillment are met.
  • Be an Active Member of the Engineering Team: Be an active member of the engineering and maintenance team, advising on site safety, condition, and performance.
  • Manage Aldi Expectations: Manage Aldi expectations and relationships through excellent communication, explaining complex problems in simple terminology.
  • Identify Talent: Identify talent within the site and recommend individuals for development and succession planning.
Requirements
  • Excellent Problem-Solving and Leadership Qualities: Demonstrate excellent problem-solving and leadership qualities, with the ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and be adaptable to change.
  • Planning and Organisational Skills: Possess planning and organisational skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the site.
  • Understanding of Technical Manuals and Drawings: Have a good understanding of mechanical, electrical, and electronic technical manuals and drawings.
  • Experience in MHE Maintenance: Have experience in MHE maintenance, with a proven track record of leading a maintenance department within a MHE environment.
  • Knowledge of Warehouse Operations: Possess knowledge of warehouse operations, with the ability to manage legislative requirements of maintenance on equipment.
  • Previously Led a Maintenance Department: Have previously led a maintenance department, with experience in managing engineering staff and non-staff spend.
  • Organised and Team Management: Be organised and possess team management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the site.
  • Problem-Solving and Computer Literate: Possess problem-solving skills and be computer literate, with the ability to manage resources and provide delivery timelines.
  • Confident Communicator: Be a confident communicator, with the ability to explain complex problems in simple terminology.
  • Detail Focused and Excellent Time Management: Be detail-focused and possess excellent time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
