Job Summary

NHS Ayrshire & Arran is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Occupational Health and Safety Director to lead the development and implementation of health and safety strategies across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist professional advice to governance forums and committees to ensure legislative requirements are met and improved staff wellbeing, welfare, working environments and patient services delivery.
  • Lead on the development and implementation of all aspects of health and safety strategy, policy and plans, ensuring delivery of professional standards and performance management across the breadth of the portfolio.
  • Engage with external regulatory bodies to ensure statutory duties and best practice standards are maintained, and risk is minimized within the organisation.
  • Provide senior leadership, strategic and operational resource management for the creation, development, implementation, review and continuous refinement of highly complex systems, processes and standards to underpin Occupational Health and Safety and Human Factors across all aspects of the organisation.

Requirements

  • Strong background in Health & Safety, with extensive senior management experience working at a strategic level within a large, complex organisation, preferably within the NHS or other public sector organisation.
  • Education to Masters level, with advanced theoretical and practical knowledge through advanced level training and experience in at least one of the following disciplines: Occupational Health and Safety; Ergonomics/Human Factors and Risk Management.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with a creative and innovative approach to problem solving.
