About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Buyer to join our Softlines department at My 1st Years. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in expanding our range by taking ownership of your own range and contributing to the department's strategy.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage critical path for the Softlines department, ensuring timely supplier approvals and comments.
  • Mentor and manage BAA, promoting our company values and behaviours.
  • Own and source a bought range, negotiating prices in line with departmental targets.
  • Contribute to department strategy, identifying risks and opportunities using data analysis.
  • Oversee sample fitting and sealing, supporting the tech team with product information.
  • Manage internal documents and systems, ensuring seamless handovers to relevant teams.
  • Collaborate with Photography to manage schedules and sample handovers.
  • Build strong relationships with suppliers.
  • Stay up-to-date with global competitors, analysing pricing, product, and current affairs.
  • Present and deputise in Buyer's absence in meetings.
  • Partner with eCommerce to optimise merchandising and provide a smooth shopping experience.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the business strategy and its impact on the department.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1-2 years experience as an Assistant Buyer, ideally in a baby/childrenswear setting.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and perform under pressure.
  • Passion for retail and a desire to develop within a buying role.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Commercially-minded and proactive.

Location

We are currently working a hybrid model with 2-3 days per week in the office and 2-3 days per week from home. Our office is located just off the M1 in Northampton.
