About Housing for Women

Housing for Women is a registered charity and independent housing association dedicated to empowering women through affordable housing and specialized support services. Since 1934, we've been committed to creating a more equitable society where every woman has access to safe and secure housing, free from violence.

Our Mission: A Haven for Healing and Growth

Our specialist Complex Needs Refuge provides intensive, one-on-one support to single women who have experienced domestic abuse. We address their diverse needs, including mental health, substance use challenges, and other complex issues.

The Role: Making a Difference in Women's Lives

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Domestic Violence Support Worker to join our team at the Complex Needs Refuge. You will play a vital role in empowering women as they rebuild their lives, reclaim their independence, and create a stable home environment.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality advocacy and support services to women residing at the refuge.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments, develop safety plans, and implement individualized support plans tailored to each woman's needs.
  • Manage a caseload of up to eight families, ensuring their well-being and providing guidance on housing management practices, including fire safety, health and safety protocols, and general cleanliness.
  • Collaborate with local and national organizations to provide comprehensive support services that address the multifaceted needs of women experiencing domestic violence.

Who We Seek:

We are looking for an individual who possesses:

  • Experience working with adults from diverse backgrounds, including those with complex needs and vulnerabilities.
  • A deep understanding of safeguarding principles and best practices.
  • Knowledge of local and national approaches to tackling domestic abuse, including MARAC (Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference), child protection, social services, and voluntary sector involvement.
  • Strong crisis management skills and the ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations.

This role is subject to a DBS check and is open to women only (Exempt under the Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9, Part 1).
