Homeless and Accommodation Officer

As a key member of our team at Hatched Recruitment Group, you will be responsible for undertaking the proper lettings of temporary accommodation to individuals who have approached the Council for housing advice and assistance. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring that duties are discharged in accordance with the Homeless Reduction Act 2017, and that placements are terminated when necessary.
Main Accountabilities- Stay up-to-date with legislation and relevant statutes, case law, and Council policy related to temporary accommodation management and provision.
- Work to reduce temporary accommodation occupancy by terminating placements where necessary, in accordance with homelessness legislation.
- Effectively manage void properties to minimize the use of Bed and Breakfast/Hotel Accommodation.
- Collaborate with the Income Recovery/Arrears Team and Temporary Accommodation Finance Officer to ensure proper financial control and timely discharge of the Council's liabilities.
- Provide relevant advice to tenants on sustaining temporary accommodation, preventing and detecting fraud, and ensuring non-breach of tenancy for any reason.
- Manage discharges of duty within specific cases, conducting comprehensive assessments, including affordability and suitability, and making legal decisions that can withstand scrutiny.
- Address breaches of tenancy conditions, including nuisance, harassment, domestic abuse, or threats to occupants' well-being and safety, and take appropriate management action against perpetrators.
