Senior Reinsurance Accountant

You will be a key member of our team at Sirius Group, responsible for providing accounting support to various operating entities. As our Senior Reinsurance Accountant, you will report to our VP Reinsurance Controller.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Accounting and Reporting: You will be responsible for the accounting and reporting of all net (direct, assumed, and ceded) business for various Sirius Group operating entities under US GAAP.
  2. Contract Review: You will review (re)insurance contracts entered into the SICS NT underwriting systems through to the output included in the financial statements.
  3. Accounting Memo Preparation: You will assist with the preparation of accounting memos for complex reinsurance contracts, documenting accounting conclusions for specific features, including risk transfer analysis.
  4. Reconciliation and Analysis: You will perform various reconciliations for underwriting general ledger accounts.
  5. System Implementation and Maintenance: You will be the key contact for implementations, improvements, upgrades, testing, and documentation of (re)insurance finance systems and data warehouses.
  6. Process Documentation and Controls: You will develop, implement, and maintain process documentation and controls over financial reporting.
  7. Finance Transformation Projects: You will assist with finance transformation projects, including scoping, documenting, and testing.
Requirements:
  1. Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business, plus an Internationally recognized accounting designation (CPA, ACA, CA, or equivalent).
  2. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of work experience with an existing (re)insurance company or with a big four public accounting firm, working with reinsurance company clients.
  3. Knowledge and Skills: Strong knowledge of reinsurance contract terms and the different methods of premium recognition. Ability to evaluate a complex reinsurance contract for risk transfer. Operational and accounting experience with outwards reinsurance. Advanced MS Excel skills and the ability to navigate complex spreadsheets, and work with large data sets. High level of competency with Microsoft Office and the aptitude to learn various systems.
  4. Soft Skills: Experience liaising with external auditors and other accounting and reinsurance professionals. Previous experience with documenting and maintaining Sox controls. Ability to adapt effectively to change and willingness to take on additional project work and responsibilities. Experience with Workday Financials, SIC NT, and Workiva would be an asset. Commitment to meeting deadlines and ability to work additional hours, weekends, and public holidays, as required.
