Job Title: Senior Reinsurance Accountant

Job Summary:

XL CATLIN is seeking a highly organized and analytical Senior Reinsurance Accountant to join the Ceded Reinsurance Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing reinsurance programs, analyzing and implementing reinsurance treaty agreements, and ensuring accurate accounting for reinsurance contracts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reinsurance Program Management: Manage reinsurance programs to ensure accurate accounting for reinsurance contracts, including complex reinsurance contracts.
  • Reinsurance Treaty Analysis: Analyze and implement reinsurance treaty agreements to protect XL CATLIN's financial stability.
  • Reinsurance Premium Allocation: Work closely with the actuarial team to ensure correct reinsurance premium allocation based on global treaty terms.
  • Ceded Premium Allocation: Partner with Ceded Re Buyers and Business Units to prepare and evaluate ceded premium allocation to accurately impact business unit financial results.
  • Global Ceded Recoveries Management: Manage multi-system/manual calculations of global claim aggregation/exhaustion, actuarial allocation to multiple systems of claim recoveries, reinstatement premiums, and monitoring AAD (Annual Aggregate deductibles).
  • Month-End, Quarter-End, and Year-End Closing Processes: Responsible for month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes of the assigned reinsurance program for all relevant systems technical accounts.
  • NAIC and NYDFS Requirements: Understand and comply with NAIC requirements for Schedule F and New York State Department of Financial Services requirements for insurance company financial statement preparations as it relates to reinsurance transactions.
  • Collateral Management: Manage the company's collateral process to ensure proper collateral is in place at year-end for statutory reporting requirements and reduction of Schedule F penalties.
  • Training and Development: Train the offshore team and perform monthly data quality/verification process.
  • System Knowledge: Acquire and command knowledge of the systems used within the company (ProCede, WINS, CH GENIUS, Hartford GENIUS, The Frame, Global Claims System, Documentum).

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related area.
  • Experience: Moderate to extensive reinsurance accounting experience required.
  • Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access), knowledge of SQL preferred.
  • Abilities: Excellent research and analytical skills, robust financial reconciliation skills.
