Job Summary

Choices College, a supported internship programme, aims to empower young adults with learning difficulties, disabilities, or autism to become employment-ready. As a key member of the team, you will work closely with the Area Manager to deliver the College's outcomes and maintain an employment transition rate of above 75%.

Main Duties

The post holder will possess a passion for supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) to reach their full potential. They will hold a teaching qualification or have recent experience in supporting the education of students with SEN in the classroom and work placement. The ideal candidate will be able to adapt working practices to suit individual students' learning needs using Training in Systematic Instruction methodologies.

The coordinator's main duties will include:

  • Supporting, monitoring, and recording individual students' progress
  • Reinforcing employability skills by delivering sessions in a classroom setting
  • Delivering bespoke training to mentors and sourcing new employers to provide placements/employment transitions for students

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Education to degree level in a relevant subject or equivalent level of experience/knowledge from working in a similar area/environment
  • TSI trained with evidence of outcomes or similar experience

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Teaching qualification or relevant experience related to young people with learning disabilities, difficulties, or Autism
  • TSI trained with evidence of outcomes or similar experience

The ideal candidate will also have:

  • Experience working with young people with SEN
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures, project management, and information analysis
  • Experience of dealing with a wide range of stakeholders and providing information and advice
Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Ability to teach/support interns with learning disability, difficulty, or Autism in work-based learning methods
  • Ability to teach/train mentors in supported internship methodology
  • Skills for communication on complex information and placement matters, requiring developed interpersonal and oral/written communication skills
  • Ability to pull together comprehensive draft reports, data, and letters
