We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pharmacist to join our team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust. As a Pharmacist in Cardiac Care, you will have the opportunity to work with a dedicated team of healthcare professionals to provide high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:- Medicine Rotations:
- Work in one of the following specialities: respiratory, gastro/hepatology, elderly care, or AMU.
- Support ward rounds and attend multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Neurosciences Rotations:
- Work in a tertiary referral centre for neurology and neurosurgery.
- Cover a neurosurgical ward and later rotate to cover other specialities like stroke and spinal.
- Encounter other neurological conditions, such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's, myasthenia gravis, and motor/sensory neuropathies.
- Surgery Rotations:
- Provide ward cover to a specific surgical area, such as maxillo-facial or lower/upper gastrointestinal.
- Attend the morning ward round and multidisciplinary ward round.
- Develop skills in nutrition support and intestinal failure working with the wider MDT.
- Critical Care Rotations:
- Work with consultant pharmacists and experienced Critical Care pharmacists.
- Attend consultant-led multidisciplinary ward rounds.
- Spent time on the Surgical High Dependency Unit and General, Cardiac, and Neuro intensive care units.
- Cardiovascular and Thoracics Rotations:
- Work as part of the cardiovascular and thoracic care group pharmacy team.
- Gain experience in cardiology, cardiac surgery, thoracic and vascular surgery, and congenital heart disease.
- Microbiology Rotations:
- Work as part of a highly respected team with links into the infection MDT.
- Participate in antibiotic stewardship activities, including microbiology and infectious diseases ward rounds.
- Surveillance of prescribing and resistance trends.
- Oncology Rotations:
- Work within a dedicated oncology pharmacy team.
- Involved in all stages of the process, from initial screening to checking the final item.
- Provide ward cover to one of our specialist oncology wards.
- Children's Services Rotations:
- Have the opportunity to work in a self-directed training pack for children's pharmacy.
- Gain experience across different services, providing ward cover and attending relevant ward rounds.
- Diabetes and Endocrine Rotations:
- Work in a variety of roles in local and regional project work around diabetes and endocrinology.
- Develop further clinical skills in diabetes and endocrinology inpatient and outpatient activity.
- Management Rotations:
- Support the Lead Pharmacist Operation and Supply Services to develop management and leadership skills.
- Develop evidence for these competencies in the advanced practice curriculum.
We are potentially able to offer this role as a band 6-7 progression post. Our preferred candidate would be someone who is able to work immediately at band 7 level.
All pharmacists are expected to participate in extended hours, including late nights and weekend dispensary support on a rotational basis.

The post-holder will be encouraged to work towards the new RPS core Advanced Practice Curriculum and have the opportunity to undertake further study in either clinical or management qualifications.
