Job Summary

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly motivated and experienced clinical pharmacist to join our Cardiovascular and Thoracic (CV&T) care group. As a specialist clinical pharmacist, you will play a key role in delivering optimum patient care to CV&T patients, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to advise on medication and optimize patient outcomes.

Main Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Providing specialist pharmaceutical review of medication for cardiology, cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgery patients
  • Working with the multidisciplinary team to advise on medication for CV&T patients to optimize their care
  • Delivering education and training to a wide range of healthcare professionals working within CV&T
  • Contributing to department-wide audit, research, risk management, and clinical governance
  • Developing guidelines to ensure safe prescribing practice
About the Role

This is a full-time Band 7 clinical pharmacist position working in a department of over 300 pharmacy staff. The CV&T pharmacy team is made up of pharmacists, medicines management technicians, and SATOs delivering a pharmacy service to 180 beds. You will be expected to work 1 in 5 late nights until 7pm and 1 in 6 weekend days (either Saturdays or Sundays). All staff are required to contribute to extended hours, weekend, and bank holiday rotas.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Master's degree in Pharmacy
  • GPhC registration
  • Sound knowledge of a surgical or medical specialty acquired working within a suitable specialty
  • Meets Foundation framework/GLF competencies
  • Audit and evaluative work experience
  • Sound understanding of healthcare priorities and political agendas
  • Experience of teaching and tutoring

Desirable qualifications include a postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience, MRPharmS or equivalent, and working towards RPS Advanced Core portfolio submission.
