Job Summary

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly motivated and experienced clinical pharmacist to join our Cardiovascular and Thoracic (CV&T) care group. As a specialist clinical pharmacist, you will play a key role in delivering optimum patient care to CV&T patients, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to advise on medication and optimize patient outcomes.

Main Responsibilities

• Provide specialist pharmaceutical review of medication for cardiology, cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgery patients
• Work with the multidisciplinary team to advise on medication for CV&T patients to optimize their care
• Deliver education and training to a wide range of healthcare professionals working within CV&T
• Contribute to department-wide audit, research, risk management, and clinical governance
• Develop guidelines to ensure safe prescribing practice
• Work with clinicians to optimize medication for heart failure patients and assist with the development of specialist clinics for optimization of secondary prevention medicines

About the Role

This is a full-time Band 7 clinical pharmacist position working in a department of over 300 pharmacy staff. The CV&T pharmacy team is made up of pharmacists, medicines management technicians, and SATOs delivering a pharmacy service to 180 beds. CV&T is a tertiary service, delivering care to patients across the South of England. You will be expected to work 1 in 5 late nights until 7pm and 1 in 6 weekend days (either Saturdays or Sundays). All staff are required to contribute to extended hours, weekend, and bank holiday rotas.

Person Specification

• Essential qualifications: Masters Degree in Pharmacy, GPhC registration, sound knowledge of a surgical or medical specialty acquired working within a suitable specialty, meets Foundation framework/GLF competencies, audit and evaluative work, sound understanding of healthcare priorities and political agendas, experience of teaching and tutoring
• Desirable qualifications: postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience, MRPharmS or equivalent, working towards RPS Advanced Core portfolio submission, training in medicines information, preparation of prescribing guidelines
