Position Overview

Band 6/7 Clinical Nurse Specialist (Upper Gastrointestinal Oncology)

This is a fixed-term position.

This role is part-time, requiring 30 hours of commitment per week.

**A Band 6 developmental role may be considered for candidates progressing towards Band 7 in accordance with the ACCEND pathway.**

An exciting opportunity has emerged within the Upper GI nursing specialist team for a proactive clinical nurse specialist.

Key Responsibilities

As a member of a small, cohesive team within a broader clinical nurse specialist service, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of skilled healthcare professionals to provide care for patients and their families. Your role will involve:

  • Offering guidance and resources for patients from diagnosis onward.
  • Delivering symptom management and support for patients with complex and frequently changing needs.
  • Conducting comprehensive Holistic Needs Assessments.
  • Engaging in multidisciplinary teamwork.
  • Performing telephone assessments and follow-ups.

Job Duties

In this role, you will serve as an expert in your clinical field, delivering specialized services to patients with Upper GI cancers and cancers of unknown origin. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting holistic needs assessments and providing individualized, compassionate care.
  • Managing patient-focused care programs that address the complex and evolving health needs of this patient demographic.
  • Collaborating with other healthcare professionals in both secondary and primary care settings to develop and sustain comprehensive services for patients.
  • Providing specialized education and training to staff and students.
  • Overseeing and optimizing the cancer care pathway for patients diagnosed with cancer.
  • Strategically influencing and advancing service development at both local and national levels.
  • Leading clinical audits within your area of expertise.
  • Participating in and facilitating research within your specialized field.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (Pt 1/12) / (RSCN (Pt 8) if applicable)
  • ENB 998/ Slice, C&G 730 or equivalent
  • Minimum of a 1st degree or equivalent experience
  • Qualification in the specialized area of head and neck UGI and/or oncology when available
  • Evidence of recent clinical practice in UGI nursing and/or oncology

Essential Experience

  • Significant post-qualification experience, including at least 2 years in the specialty
  • Recent clinical experience at Band 6/7 in the specialty
  • Detailed experience in facilitation, teaching, assessing, and coaching
  • Proven experience in successful change management
  • Experience in local and strategic influencing
