Position Overview

As a member of the Technical Claims Team, reporting directly to the Technical Claims Manager, you will thrive in a dynamic and engaging atmosphere with significant autonomy. Your responsibilities will include overseeing a portfolio primarily focused on escape of water claims. You will be responsible for the initial notification of loss, evaluating policy coverage, and assigning claims to the appropriate personnel. You will manage your own claims portfolio, determining the extent of damage to both property and contents, while negotiating the scope of repairs and settlements. Your commitment to delivering outstanding service to our brokers and clients will reflect your dedication, confidence, and resourcefulness, empowering you to make informed decisions regarding claims.

This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, with two days in the office and three days working remotely, though additional office days are welcome.

Office attendance will be required at designated hubs.

Key Responsibilities

Providing exceptional customer service consistently, aligning with the Hiscox Claims philosophy and embodying our core values Achieving and surpassing established SLAs and performance targets Conducting thorough assessments on your assigned escape of water claims to ensure the appropriate resources are allocated Coordinating with clients to schedule field visits Developing tailored action plans for each claim and taking responsibility for managing the claim process and any third-party suppliers from initial investigation to the resolution of repairs and settlements Establishing early strategies for each claim, validating, negotiating, and settling claims fairly with a focus on prompt resolution and effective control of indemnity expenses Adhering to a defined process and ensuring that information is documented clearly and consistently, with well-thought-out next steps Collaborating with clients and their contractors, disaster management firms, surveyors, and our approved contractors to ensure building projects are completed on time and within budget Addressing inquiries from policyholders, third parties, and other professionals regarding ongoing claims, identifying key issues that may require escalation or further review, including potential claims for special investigation When applicable, offering risk management insights and recommendations to both policyholders and underwriters to enhance risk profiles Delivering high-quality technical support on individual tasks and team initiatives within the Technical Team while also assisting the broader claims team in their technical development Working independently and demonstrating initiative in your claims management approach, recognizing that each client is unique and adapting processes or communications accordingly

Essential Qualifications

Strong commitment to customer service Proven experience in claims handling across various products, particularly high net worth household and commercial risks, with a focus on escape of water Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to operate independently within claims underwriting guidelines and adhere strictly to claims handling authority Keen attention to detail and confidence in engaging with both internal and external clients Solid understanding of building construction and drying methods Self-driven and adaptable, with a positive response to change A collaborative team player who values hard work and enjoyment Flexibility to adapt to various situations with strong negotiation skills Capability to mentor and support colleagues

Preferred Qualifications:

ACII/ACILA certification or progress towards this qualification (if not held, it will be a requirement to work towards it) Qualifications from the British Disaster Management Association or a commitment to pursue such qualifications Knowledge of risk management is advantageous Proficiency in Excel and Word
