Position Overview
As a member of the Technical Claims Team, reporting directly to the Technical Claims Manager, you will thrive in a dynamic and stimulating environment that offers a significant degree of independence. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee a portfolio predominantly focused on escape of water claims. This entails receiving the initial notification of loss, evaluating policy coverage, and assigning the claim to the appropriate team member. You will maintain your own claims portfolio, where you will assess the extent of damage to both property and contents, determining the necessary repairs and settlement amounts. In providing outstanding service to our brokers and clients, you will be a dedicated, confident, and resourceful professional who prioritizes customer care and is empowered to make informed decisions regarding claims.
This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, with two days spent in the office and three days working remotely, although additional office days can be accommodated if preferred.
Office attendance will be required at designated hubs.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver exceptional customer service consistently, embodying the Hiscox Claims philosophy and values Achieve and surpass established SLAs and performance targets Conduct thorough assessments on your assigned escape of water claims to ensure appropriate resources are allocated Coordinate with customers to schedule field visits Develop tailored action plans for each claim, taking responsibility for proactive management from initial investigation through to repair completion and settlement of contents Establish early strategies for each claim, validating, negotiating, and settling claims fairly with a focus on prompt resolution and careful control of indemnity expenses Adhere to defined processes, ensuring clear and consistent documentation of information with logical planning for next steps Collaborate with customers, contractors, disaster management firms, surveyors, and our designated contractors to ensure building projects are completed on time and within budget Address inquiries from policyholders, third parties, and other professionals regarding ongoing claims, identifying key issues that may require escalation or further review, including potential claims for special investigation Where applicable, provide risk management insights and recommendations to both policyholders and underwriters to enhance risk profiles Offer top-notch technical support on individual tasks and team initiatives while also aiding the broader claims team in their technical development Operate independently, demonstrating initiative in your claims handling approach, recognizing that each customer has unique needs, including identifying vulnerable customers and adjusting processes or communications accordinglyEssential Qualifications
Strong commitment to customer service Proven experience in claims handling across various products, particularly focusing on high net worth household and commercial risks, with an emphasis on escape of water Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to work autonomously within claims underwriting guidelines while strictly adhering to claims handling authority Keen attention to detail and confidence in engaging with both internal and external stakeholders Solid understanding of building construction and drying methodologies Self-driven and adaptable, with a positive response to change A collaborative team player who values hard work and enjoyment Flexibility to adapt to various situations with strong negotiation capabilities Capacity to mentor and support colleaguesPreferred Qualifications:
ACII/ACILA or progress towards this qualification (if not already held, it will be a requirement to pursue) Qualifications from the British Disaster Management Association or a commitment to achieve this qualification Knowledge of risk management is advantageous Proficiency in Excel and Word Commitment to Diversity and Hybrid Working
