Position Overview

We are seeking a qualified Speech and Language Specialist to become a vital member of the Central Lancashire Children's Learning Disability Team, specifically within the Social Communication Assessment Team (SCAT). The successful candidate will focus on conducting assessments for children in the pre-school age group who may be on the autism spectrum.

Key Responsibilities

The individual in this role will spearhead the implementation and enhancement of the Autism Diagnostic Care pathway, collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting comprehensive assessments, treatment planning, and evaluation of interventions within the autism pathway.
  • Performing specialized Speech and Language Therapy assessments tailored to the needs of the client demographic.

Candidate Profile

Education and Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Current professional registration with HCPC as a Speech and Language Therapist, with a commitment to maintaining this registration.
  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant clinical field (or in progress) or equivalent knowledge and experience at a master's level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in the relevant clinical area.
  • Current accreditation in diagnostic assessments such as ADOS/DISCO.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential Criteria

  • Comprehensive understanding of the relevant clinical knowledge for this position.
  • Awareness of clinical governance frameworks and their implications for practice, including audit and research governance.
  • Thorough understanding of current NHS policies, government guidelines, and the ability to adapt these to meet local service requirements.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and management, including policies for lone working.
  • Change management capabilities and excellent time management skills.
  • Sound understanding of safeguarding principles, including the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLS).
